Volume 7; Issue 2 | September, 2011
|
Dear Ronald Sherman, It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Pam Mitchell, on September 8, 2011. As a member of the Board of Directors, as a steadfast Patient Advocate, as a former maggot therapy patient herself, and as a pillar in her Family and her Community, Pam Mitchell was an inspiration to us all.
Readers of this newsletter will know that Pam was one of the 6 recipients of the BTER Foundation's William S. Baer Award for Outstanding Service in the Advancement of Biotherapy. She devoted the last decade of her life to helping others with chronic wounds, teaching health care professionals and non-professionals about biotherapy, and improving the availability of biotherapeutic treatments. She often referred to these activities as her "mission."
Pam accomplished a lot before she left us . . . including the writing & publishing of her memoir (www.bterfoundation.org/bterstore). But we all feel cheated by her passing, knowing that there was so much more that she wanted to accomplish.
Many of you knew Pam personally; most of you were touched by her work, whether or not you are aware of it. The Board Members are considering ways to pay tribute to Pam Mitchell, and at the same time continue her mission (for example, setting up a fund in her name). If you have any suggestions, please let us know. If you would like to send a message to the Family, you may do so via her BTER Foundation e-mail address: [email protected].
We are in need of new Board Members. If you would like to serve as a Board Member, please send us a letter of interest, along with a resume or curriculum vitae ([email protected]).
Several BTER Foundation members have volunteered or have been nominated for special committees in education, membership, or reviewing grant requests. If you are a member, don't be surprised if you receive your first assignment within the coming weeks. If you did not volunteer for one of our committees but want to do so, just send us a message ([email protected]). If you are not yet a member, you could become one! Find out more at: www.BTERFoundation.org/membership.
